The EGA's 2024 Annual General Meeting was held in Portugal on Saturday 23 November.
The general assembly, attended by close to 100 delegates representing 42 of the EGA's 50 member federations, was chaired by EGA President, Caroline Huyskes.
The attendees heard reports from the President and various other members of the EGA's Executive Committee on topics including championships, handicapping, sustainability and finances. Shona McRae, Director of Rules at The R&A, was also invited to speak as a guest representative of The R&A.
The assembly unanimously approved the appointment of Benoit Dumont as the EGA's new Honorary Treasurer, who succeeds Achim Battermann following the conclusion of his four-year term.
The event concluded multiple days of committee meetings, workshop sessions, networking opportunities and also a golf competition for Europe's leading amateur golf officials.
Friday of the AGM week saw the attending delegates participate in rotating workshop sessions. A range of experts from across the European golf sector presented and led discussions on topics including environmental sustainability, the World Amateur Golf Ranking, elite amateur pathways, the World Handicap System, and Golf for the Disabled.
Alicia Moulin (Swiss Golf & EGA Sustainability Manager), Gunnar Håkansson (Swedish Golf Federation General Secretary), Jonathan Smith (GEO Executive Director) and Lawrie McLaren (Burson Senior Managing Director) led the environmental sustainability session, which ended with a panel discussion including Mark Kennelly (Golf Ireland CEO) and Joel Nunes (FEGGA Chairman).
During the week, the EGA, together with The R&A, also hosted a best practice exchange for the delegates of small and emerging golfing nations of Europe (pictured below). The session included presentations from the Estonian Golf Association, Danish Golf Union, Czech Golf Federation and The R&A on various initiatives including junior development and performance pathways.
