Paula Martín Sampedro from Spain is the 2025 European Ladies’ Amateur Champion. She pulled off a spectacular closing performance to be the first player since 2006 to win the Women’s Amateur and European Ladies Amateur Championships in the same year.

The first charge of the day was made by Balma Davalos from Spain, during the completion of round 3 in the early morning. She managed to reclaim the lead from her compatriot Paula Martin Sampedro, with both players establishing a new course record at 10 under par.

Davalos had to wait until hole number 9 in the afternoon to claim her first birdie of round 4, to keep the outright lead at -20. The championship had now turned into a four-horse race, with yet another member of team Spain Andrea Revuelta and Sweden’s Meja Örtengren, playing in the penultimate group.

Örtengren was first to drop out of the race with three bogeys in a row on 12, 13 and 14. Meanwhile, Revuelta also had to step back, although she was able to finish her round with three birdies, securing a Spanish one-two-three.

The battle for gold eventually came down to a duel between Martin Sampedro and Davalos, who both birdied the 16th to keep Davalos’ one stroke advantage unchanged. But the two final par 5s proved to be decisive, as the leader had to settle for par on both occasions. Paula Martin Sampedro’s birdie on 17 put her in a tie for the lead, and a final birdie four on the 18th was enough for her to clinch the Championship.

Martin Sampedro becomes the first play in almost 20 years to win Women’s Amateur and European Ladies’ Amateur Championships in the same season. Paula Martin Sampedro will now have to fly quickly to Royal Porthcawl in Wales to play in the AIG Women’s Open next week.
