Course Record. Again!

21 Jul 2016

It lasted less than 24 hours... Yesterday’s course record at Hook’s Golf Club, Sweden, is already old news as Swiss player Morgane Metraux posted a score of 62, ten under par, on the second day of the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship.

”It was one of those days, when everything falls into place, the putting in particular. I almost find it hard to explain”, said the Swiss player directly after her dream round, which included nine pars, eight birdies and one eagle!

The shot of the day was her second stroke on the eleventh (the second hole as she teed off on number ten). After 160 metres the ball hit the flagstick leading to an easy second birdie of the day. Metraux went on to birdie hole 13, 14, 15 and 16 to progress to -6 at the turn. After a par on her 10th hole, she birdied hole 2 and topped it with a superb eagle on hole 3, which saw her at -9 after 12 holes. Another gained shot at the eighth hole, her second last hole for the day, made the personal best perfect (despite one lip-out on the previous hole). Metraux is now holding second place at -9 after today’s flawless performance and her one-over-par opening round on Thursday.

Still in the lead, although she had to give up her course record from yesterday (64), is Diane Baillieux from Belgium with a second round of 69, three under par and a total of -11. She was anything but pleased when she signed her card after the round, as she finished off with a double bogey.

”That’s so unnecessary! Can you please give me something hard to punch?”, Baillieux said, describing herself as a player with temperament and passion.

In third place, after day two at the Park Course at Hook’s Golf Club, are Mathilde Fredensborg, Denmark, and Leslie Cloots, Belgium, both four strokes behind the leader Baillieux at -7.

The cut will be determined after the third round tomorrow. The 60 best players plus ties advance to Saturday’s final to compete for the trophy, the medals and the honour. And maybe for another course record…
