SCORES

MEN - KILLARNEY G&FC, IRELAND

England once again produced a stellar performance at the European Amateur Team Championships as Ben Gorvett’s men finished day two on -24, adding to their opening day -20, to comprehensively secure top spot ahead of tomorrow’s Match Play rounds. Their total of -44 shatters the scoring record for the European Amateur Team Championship stroke play qualifying, previously set and match multiple times at -32.

Tyler Weaver was the star of the show for the English side as the Suffolk golfer carded a superb -9 round of 63 highlighted by a hole in one on the Par 3 third.

Ireland will also join England in Flight A as the home team finished the Stroke Play stage with a -25 total to take second place, lining up a mouth-watering tie against 2024 champions Sweden tomorrow.

The other quarter-finals will be tough to call. Denmark and Italy, who finished on the same score of -24, will face Germany and France respectively.

England’s reward for finishing top of the Stroke Play leaderboard is a clash with Finland and having seen his team put together two magnificent days of play, Gorvett is confident his side can continue their form and push for a 12th title this year.

“Team morale is high, so we are looking good going into tomorrow,” said Gorvett.

“The boys are performing well, they’re hitting the ball well, I know we’re scoring well. We just got to regroup tonight. It’s good to celebrate this, but we’ve got to focus on tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes.”

WOMEN - GOLF DE CHANTILLY, FRANCE

Spain has been the dominant force so far at the European Ladies Team Championship in Chantilly. The Spaniards will enter Thursday’s quarter finals as the number 1 seed, edging home team France by three shots in stroke play qualifying.

Spain set the pace on day 1 by taking the lead, four shots clear of Sweden and France. They kept their lead on day 2, thanks to a stellar performance by Andrea Revuelta. Carding a bogey-free 8-under 62, she set the new lowest women’s score on Chantilly’s old course.

Spain clinched first place at -1, as France was able to grab second place at +2. The best scorecard of this week’s home team came from no other than Golf de Chantilly member Valentine Delon on day 2, shooting a 5-under 65.

Sweden had to settle for third place, barely edging Germany and Wales, who produced a solid performance on day 2 to secure 4th and 5th. The two will meet on Thursday, as Ireland punched its ticket to play against Sweden. The battle for the last spots came down to the wire, with Italy and England finishing 7th and 8th to keep their hopes for the title alive.

BOYS - GOLF RESORT KASKADA BRNO, CZECH REPUBLIC

The second day of the European Team Championship at the Kaskáda Golf Resort near Brno brought not only improved weather conditions, but also excellent performances from the home team.

After the opening round, where the Czech team shared second place alongside a strong Swedish squad, they delivered a standout performance in round two and moved to the top of the leaderboard to earn the number-one seed for the matchplay stages. France followed in second place at +14, while Germany finished third at +21.

Although the wind continued to challenge players, the Czech team managed the tough conditions exceptionally well. Czech team coach Vojtěch Dostál evaluated his team’s performance: "Two days ago, we set one goal — to finish in the Top-8 after stroke play qualification. That goal has been achieved. The team is mentally well-prepared, the guys have been playing together for quite a while, and the team chemistry is at a very high level. We’re staying focused on the present and not looking further ahead than tomorrow’s match against the Dutch. We’re excited and heading to bed early to get as much recovery as possible."

France will play last year's runners-up, England on Thursday, while Germany will face Denmark. Switzerland will face tough opponents in Sweden, who have finished on the podium both of the last two years.

On the individual leaderboard, Switzerland’s Yannick Beeli earned low-medallist honours after two rounds with a total score of -4 (67, 73). Close behind him were three Czech players: Štěpán Plášek in second at -3 (73, 68), followed by teammates Václav Švub and Mikuláš Vojtěšek, who tied for third at -2.

GIRLS - SLALEY HALL, ENGLAND

Reigning champions England Girls were the standout team on day two of the European Girls’ Team Championship but it was France who came out as the top seed after the two rounds of stroke play at Slaley Hall.

England’s Annabel Peaford (-3) topped the individual standings with a total of -6 overall, while scores of 73 (-1) for each of Charlotte Naughton, Lauren Crump and Elizabeth Wilson (the latter who blasted six birdies on the front nine), ensured England finished 2nd overall on a total of -7, four strokes behind France.

Italy’s Gemma Simeoni was 2nd in the individual standings on -4 overall, helping her country to a 3rd-place finish, while Sofia Maier-Borst (Germany), Ella Forss (Sweden) and Elizabeth Wilson (England) were tied-3rd.

The quarter-finals will see France take on Ireland, England battling Spain, Italy facing Czech Republic, and Sweden taking on Germany on Thursday.
