Spain has won the 2026 European Boys' Team Championship title after a dominant performance on home soil at Barceló Montecastillo.
After having to regain their place in the Boys' top flight last year in Division 2, the Spanish bounced back in style, defeating England in the final to claim the European crown.
The hosts looked strong all week, and wasted no time in establishing themselves as the team to beat in the stroke play qualifying. An impressive 33 under par total on the opening two days gave them the number-one seed for match play, 11 strokes ahead of the Netherlands.
Spain comfortably dispatched Germany in the quarterfinals with some big wins, to set up a meeting with defending champions, the Czech Republic, in the semifinals.
In what was perhaps the tightest match of the entire tournament, with the score level after the morning foursomes and four of the singles matches all square midway through the back nine, Spain were able to edge out last year's winners and book a place in the final.
The gold medal match saw Spain take on England. Yago Horno and Raul Gomez combined for their third straight foursomes win of the week to take the first point for Spain, while extra holes were needed to decide the second alternate shot match. Nicolas Vidal and Mateo Hidalgo made it 2 to 0 for Spain on the 20th hole, leaving a mountain to climb in the afternoon for England.
Raul Gomez secured an emphatic 7&6 win in the fourth singles, leaving Spain just one point away from the title. It was Gonzalo Banos who sealed the victory for Spain, with a masterful bunker shot on the 18th finishing off the match.
The win marks Spain's 8th in the Boys' Team event, and their first since 2018.
In the match for third place, Czech Republic defeated the Netherlands 5.5 to 1.5 to secure a second consecutive year on the podium.
At the other end of the championship, Austria, Switzerland and Scotland finished in the bottom three positions, and will have to earn their way back to the top flight in Division 2 next year.
