New Report Shows Continued Rise in Registered European Golfers

30 Sep 2024
The R&A has recently published new participation reports for golf in its affiliated regions.

Together with the EGA, this includes a new participation report specifically for Europe.

Normally published biennially, shortened versions of the publications have been made available this year which are based on data from 2023.

The European report shows a continued rise in the number of registered golfers.

The latest calculated figure puts the total number of registered players in Europe at just under 4.7 million, representing an increase of 2.8% since the last report, and 9% since 2020.

The report estimates that there are more than 13 million ‘9 & 18 hole golfers’ in Europe, with total adult engagement (including other golf formats such as pitch & putt or driving ranges), reaching 19.7 million.

The top-5 markets in Europe for number of registered golfers, England, Germany, Sweden, France and the Netherlands, all saw increases since the previous year. Germany saw the biggest jump in registered players moving from 683,000 to 725,000.
