Low-Scoring Start to the European Young Masters in Slovakia

25 Jul 2024

The 2024 European Young Masters got off to a low-scoring start on Thursday in Slovakia.

115 of Europe's best U16 players have gathered at Penati Golf Resort to compete for medals in three categories: Boys, Girls and Team.

Five players managed rounds of 66 (-6) on Day 1, three girls and two boys, on a day where 38 players shot in the red numbers.

Annabell Peaford (ENG), Sofie Nooij (NED) and Angela Revuelta (ESP) lead the girls tournament. The latter's older sister is also tied for the lead, but at the European Ladies' Amateur Championship in Finland.

Sofie Noiij's round included back-to-back eagles on the par-4 14th and par-5 15th holes.

Turkey's Deniz Sapmaz sits just one shot further back on -5.

LEADERBOARD GIRLS

In the boys' event, Stephan Csöngei (AUT) and Charlie Rusbridge (ENG) are the players to catch after the first of three rounds. The latter was the only boy to go bogey-free at Penati on Thursday.

Three players sit just one shot back on -5 heading into Friday.

LEADERBOARD BOYS

In the Nations' Cup, a team event which counts the aggregate of each country's three lowest scores each day, Spain and England are currently tied for the lead on -14.

The low scoring looks set to continue in Round 2 at Penati, with sunny and still conditions forecast for Friday in Slovakia.
