The Finnish Golf Union and Linna Golf have been confirmed as hosts to the 2026 European Amateur Championship.
Regularly ranked as Finland’s leading golf course, Linna Golf formerly hosted the same event in 2010 and has also welcomed the European Young Masters and St Andrews Trophy in recent years.
The European Amateur Championship, set to be played at Vasatorps Golf Club in Sweden this summer, offers an invitation to The Open to its winner. With major championship golf on offer as a prize, the championship frequently attracts the top talent in the amateur game from Europe and further afield.
The tournament consistently ranks amongst the strongest amateur stroke play events in the world according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking, and boasts an impressive list of past participants. Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Åberg, Sergio Garcia, and Paul Casey have all either won the event or finished on the podium, alongside numerous other notable names.
144 of the world’s top amateur players will compete for the European crown, and a spot in The Open Championship, just north of Helsinki from 24 to 27 June next year. The event will mark the second major individual amateur event to be held in Finland in the space of three years, following Messilä Golf staging the European Ladies' Amateur Championship in July 2024.
Originally built as a hunting lodge, Linna Golf boasts a spectacular par-72, 18-hole Championship golf course, superb practice facilities and a striking redbrick clubhouse.
Woodhall Spa - the Home of England Golf, was originally set to host the tournament in 2026 although will instead stage the 2027 edition due to planned renovations of its infrastructure.
