History
The European Amateur Team Championship is one of the most prestigious amateur team golf tournaments in Europe. Over time, as the championship grew in prominence, the need for a more inclusive and tiered structure arose. This led to the creation of Division 2 in the early 2000s, providing a competitive platform for nations that were developing their golf programs.
Initially, the European Amateur Team Championship featured top-tier teams from the strongest golfing nations in Europe. However, with the sport's rapid growth across the continent, smaller and emerging golfing nations sought opportunities to compete at an elite level. In response, Division 2 was established, allowing these nations to participate in a structured competition with the opportunity to earn promotion to Division 1.
This event has become a cornerstone for countries looking to elevate their golf programs, with Division 2 offering a steppingstone to the top tier of European amateur golf.
