The Continent of Europe hold a narrow one-point lead at the halfway stage of the Jacques Léglise Trophy in Sweden.
In the morning foursomes matches at Falsterbo Golfklubb, the Continent of Europe started strong, going up in three matches. However, by the turn, Great Britain & Ireland had taken the lead in two of the four games.
German duo, Tiger Christensen and Marco Florioli put the first point on the board for the Continent of Europe with a 2&1 victory over Jack Bigham and Josh Hill.
Italian pair, Marco Florioli and Flavio Michetti were two down after 11 holes, although won five of the next six to claim a 3&1 victory and give a two-point advantage to the hosts.
Great Britain & Ireland responded with a victory of their own shortly after, winning the 18th hole in match 2 for a 1up victory.
Tim Wiedemeyer and Daniel Svärd posted the biggest win of the morning session, with a 4&2 victory in the final foursomes match to take the score to 3-1.
The afternoon singles session was closely contested, with a number of matches going down the 18th and all matches going to at least the 16th.
The visitors would ultimately win the session 4.5 to 3.5 to reduce the Continent of Europe's lead to just one point.
Ruben Lindsay, Harley Smith, Archie Finnie and captain, Cameron Adam secured the victories for the GB&I side. Jaime Montojo, Yannick Malik and Oihan Guillamoundeguy won their matches for the Continent of Europe.
In the final match of the day, Tim Wiedemeyer was four down after nine holes but battled back to claim a half, leaving the score at 6.5 - 5.5.
"We had a good start this morning" said Continent of Europe captain, Joachim Fourquet at the end of the day's play. "This afternoon it was quite difficult, very very tight."
"All of the guys here are very talented. The level of golf is really high."
"I think we have to putt a little bit better tomorrow than we did today, the putting is what will make the difference, for sure."
GB&I captain, Cameron Adam won his match with a birdie on the 17th hole. After the final match of the day, he said: "There's still a lot of points to play for, there's really nothing in it, so we're all feeling pretty good heading into tomorrow."
"I'm really pleased with the team, to come back and win the singles in the afternoon and to be still right there in it, I'm really proud of everyone."
"Fair play to Continent of Europe, they hung in there when it looked like it could have been a bit worse for them, they grinded it out and got a couple of points back."
Four foursomes matches and nine singles matches on Saturday will decide who claims the 2021 Jacques Léglise Trophy.
