Barceló Montecastillo and the Royal Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG) have been confirmed as hosts to the 2026 European Boys’ Team Championship.
Located on the outskirts of Jerez de la Frontera in southwestern Spain, the 5-star resort is surrounded by a spectacular natural setting and features a 19th century castle.
The par-72 Jack Nicklaus designed course previously hosted the European Tour’s Volvo Masters from 1997 to 2001, and will host its first EGA tournament next summer.
The venue will welcome the continent’s best U18 boys players from 7 to 11 July 2026 as they compete for European glory with their countries’ teams.
The event will add to a long list of EGA Championships hosted by the RFEG in recent years including the 2024 European Ladies’ Team Championship, the 2023 Bonallack and Patsy Hankins Trophies, the 2022 European Amateur Championship among many others. This year the St Andrews Trophy, European Senior Ladies’ Team and European Mid-Amateur Team Championships will all also be organised in Spain.
A Prestigious Event
The European Boys’ Team Championship, named after the renowned French amateur champion and former EGA President, Jean-Louis Dupont, is one of the most hotly contested championships in the EGA’s event roster.
Played annually since its inauguration in 1980, the five-day event features two stroke play qualifying rounds before progressing to match play where countries go head-to-head.
Virtually all of Europe’s biggest golfing stars previously represented their countries in the event before turning pro, including Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Åberg, Viktor Hovland, and all European major champions since 2010.

A Redemption Chance for the Spanish Boys
The host team for the 2026 event will hope to use home-advantage to return to the top spot on the European boys podium after a disappointing 2024 campaign which saw them relegated to Division 2 for this year.
Spain claimed gold in the Men’s, Ladies’ and Girls’ Team Championships in 2023, but haven’t reached the final in the Boys’ event since the 2018 edition which they won.
