Spain has finished the 2025 European championship season as the country with the most EGA gold medals.

The medal tables, which count all EGA European-titled championships in each calendar year, are recognized at the conclusion of the European Men’s Club Trophy, the final EGA event of the season.

The gold medals for Spain came at the European Ladies’ and Girls’ Team Championships in July, which were shortly followed by a remarkable Spanish 1-2-3 finish, led by Paula Martín Sampedro, at the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship in Frankfurt.

Spain’s final gold medal was a repeat success from 2024, and came on home soil in the second edition of the European Mid-Amateur Men’s Team Championship.

The 2025 season saw 12 different countries claim gold medals, an increase from last year’s eight.

Denmark claimed second position in the 2025 medal table with three gold, three silver and one bronze medal. Two of the three wins came at the European Championship for Golfers with Disability, played with four titled categories for the first time this year. The third came in the final EGA event of the season, where Smørum Golfklub claimed a second European Men’s Club Trophy win in three years in the 50th edition of the championship.

Third, and with their highest ever finish in the end of season medal tables, the Czech Republic enjoyed a breakthrough year with some landmark victories, notably, Filip Jakubčík’s European Amateur Championship triumph in June. Jakubčík’s victory seemed to inspire the country’s junior boys’ team, who earned the Czech Republic’s first ever European Team Championship gold medal on home soil just two weeks later. Štěpán Plasek, a member of that winning team, carried on the Czech Republic’s golden summer with a win at the European Young Masters for U16 players yet another two weeks later.

Last year’s dominant force, France, couldn’t follow up their impressive tally of nine gold medals from 2024, although the country’s players and teams did earn the same number of top-two finishes. France finished fourth in the table with two gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals. They nevertheless earned the special distinction of claiming the most EGA medals (gold, silver and bronze combined) of any country this year.

Germany, Ireland and England were the other countries to claim multiple gold medals this season, while Italy, Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands and Scotland all earned one titled victory.

In total, 16 countries earned EGA medals in 2025, including Estonia who earned their first individual medal, thanks to a runner-up performance in the European Mid-Amateur Men’s Championship by Mattias Varjun.

EUROPEAN TEAM SHIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The European Team Shield Championships, which are designed for small and emerging golfing nations of the EGA, have their own medal tables as the event isn’t counted as a European-titled category.

The championships were held at Pravets Golf Club in Bulgaria this summer, and saw Greece extend their lead at the top of the men’s medal table, earning a fifth gold medal.

Luxembourg earned their first medal on the women’s side, with a victory over Turkey in the final.
