SOPHIA POPOV WINS the AIG WOMEN’S OPEN

Germany's Sophia Popov (world number 304) wins the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Troon this weekend.

The 27-year-old, who is a former European Ladies‘ Amateur Champion (2010 at Kunětická Hora – Czech Republic), becomes the first German player to claim a women's major golf title.

She was twice a member of a Continent of Europe winning team in the Vagliano Trophy: 2011 at Royal Porthcawl and 2013 at Chantilly.

She represented Germany in the 2008 European Young Masters, in the European Girls‘ Team Championship in 2008, 2009 and 2010, and in the European Ladies’ Team Championship in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

Sophia is a player whose experience and talent were much enhanced by the competitive experience provided by the DGV and the EGA.
