The first ever European Mid-Amateur Men’s and Ladies’ Team Championships, for golfers aged 25+, are set to begin on Wednesday morning at Golf de Chiberta, France.

16 men's teams and 10 ladies' teams, totalling 104 mid-amateur players, will represent their countries on the south-western French coast this week.

The new event is the latest step in the EGA’s ongoing efforts to develop participation and international competition at the mid-amateur level in Europe. In recent years the EGA also introduced the European Mid-Amateur Ladies’ individual Championship (2019) and reduced the Mid-Amateur category age limit from 30 to 25 (2021).

The first official European Mid-Amateur Team Championships will be contested in parallel from Wednesday to Saturday with two rounds of stroke play and two rounds of match play.

The top-four teams in the stroke play qualifying will compete for medals in the match play rounds in Flight A, while the remaining teams will compete for final position in their separate flights.

Matches for teams that can still win a medal will be played under a two foursomes and three singles format, while all other matches will be one foursome and two singles.
