Richard Heath holds the lead heading into the last day of the European Mid-Amateur Men's Championship at St. Laurance Golf Finland. The Australian player, who won the event in 2015, added a four-under-par 68 to his first round score of 69 (-3) to reach seven-under-par and take a two-shot advantage into the final round.
"I’ve played solid golf and eliminated the mistakes." Heath commented, following his round. "My putting has been good overall. I’ve holed good putts even though I missed some short ones coming in. I’m just going to continue my normal style of play tomorrow – no holding back. It’s never easy to win! I just want to play great golf and I’m happy if it’s enough to win the title again."
Christophe De Grancey matched Heath's score on day two, adding to his one-underpar 71 in the first round to sit in second place on five-under. The French player is yet to make a bogey in the event and will join Heath and Marcel Zillekens, who is third on two-under-par, in the final group on Saturday.
In the Ladies' event, Nina Birken holds the lead after carding a one-over-par 73 in round two, the lowest score of the day. The German player is six-over-par, one shot ahead of Sweden's Louise Göthberg. ”The course is marvellous and in top-condition!" Said Berken. "It’s hard to get close to the pin, and there were some very tricky pins too.”
"I'm happy to have the chance to play for European title – I’m 40 and didn’t want to wait until I’m a senior!”
Myrte Eikenarr, the leader after round one, sits in third place on eight-over-par.
