Germany wins the European Amateur Team Championship for the first time

Germany becomes the new European Amateur Team Champion for the first time in the event's history at Hilversumsche GC in the Netherlands.

 

After the Strokeplay qualification, Germany took the lead (-14) ahead of the home team Netherlands (-6) and Sweden (-2). Matthias Schmid (GER) carded an exceptional 62 (-10).

 

After the quarterfinals, four nations were in contention for the medals: Germany vs Switzerland and Sweden vs Italy. Both Germany and Sweden progressed to the finals.

 

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH – GERMANY VS SWEDEN (2-1)

In the foursomes, Nick Bachem and Marc Hammer (GER) won their match defeating David Nyfall and Albin Bergstrom (SWE) by one hole.

Matthias Schmid secured the trophy by winning his single match 6 & 5 against Gustav Andersson.

 

BRONZE MEDAL MATCH – SWITZERLAND VS ITALY (2-1)

Switzerland defeated Italy in the bronze medal match with Nicola Gerhardsen and Robert Foley winning their foursomes match and Mauro Gilardi defeating Andrea Romano in the singles.

 

SWEDEN IN 2021

Next year’s Championship will be held on 6-10 July at Vasatorp GC in Sweden.
