Three rounds are in the books at the European Amateur Championship, and once more, the overnight lead has changed. Playing in Friday’s final group, Filip Jakubcik from Czech Republic and Kristian Bressum from Denmark set the pace at the top of the leaderboard on the first 15 holes. Bressum then lead the pack at -6, topping Jakubcik by two. But both players had to drop shots on their way home, playing into heavy gusts on the last three holes. Bressum in particular carded a costly double bogey on 16. Both players eventually capped off third round at 3-under par for the tournament.

« It was pretty tough, I would say, Jakubcik said. It was quite windy, obviously. But I’m happy. If someone had told me I would be coleader when this tournament had started, I’d be definitely happy. Obviously, it would be nice to win, but I don’t want to think about it too much. »

Windy conditions left little room for scores under par. Yet, Finn Kölle from Germany fought his way to a 2-under 70, jumping to three under par overall. Sharing the lead with Bressum and Jakubcik, he punched his ticket to the final pairing with the Dane on Saturday.

Former leader Sakke Siltala had to give up first place, but kept himself very much in contention. The Finn carded a 75, and only trails the leaders by a single stroke.

With Nevill Ruiter from the Netherlands and Matteo Cristoni from Italy sharing 5th place at -1, a total of six players are still under par at the end of a gusty day in Sweden. Chances are high to see one of them crowned on Saturday, and earn an invitation to next month’s Open Championship.
