Bonallack and Patsy Hankins Trophies - Day 2 Report
Thursday, 17 March
Like yesterday, fog caused delay to the morning sessions. Four unfinished matches, three ladies’ and one men’s, had to be played before the foursome pairings could tee off. Unfortunately for Team Europe, only Lyng Thomsen and Fabrizio could add any points to their team’s score.
An unexpected change in the European ladies’ team a few minutes before the foursomes start added to an already hectic morning. However, Team Europe took the morning session to reduce the deficit from Day 1.
In the afternoon session, Choi and Park from Korea enjoyed a victory over Valenzuela and Parra Luque. Sobron Galmes and Spitz and Carpinelli and MacLaren struck back for Europe. The two matches remaining matches will be finished on Friday morning.
The projected score after the first four sessions of the Patsy Hankins Trophy is 10.5-8.5 for Asia-Pacific. With 12 single matches to be played tomorrow Europe are keeping their chances alive against tough opposition.
In the Bonallack Trophy, Asia-Pacific needs a strong comeback in tomorrow’s singles as the projected score after session four is 12.5-6.5 for Europe.
Europe’s men started Day 2 strongly by collecting 3.5 points in the morning foursome session. In the afternoon, the fourball pairings Galiano/Cantero, Petersson/Krietemeijer and Hume/Cianchetti got the best of their opponents 4&3, 3&2 and 3 up (match to be completed Friday morning) respectively. However, the Forrest and McDonald and Moore and Turner pairings could not contribute any further points.
The predicted rain might change the playing conditions for tomorrow’s matches. The remaining three fourball matches will re-start at 8.00 am followed by the 12 singles session.
The Patsy Hankins Trophy match in particular looks set for an exciting finale.
